| Sorry for not updating my blog for a long time. how were your summer holidays? In these summer holidays, I went travelling , went to Shanghai Expo and a golden city, Myanmar... I think those experiences are very meaningful to me. Also I joined one exchange trip, in that trip, I met a lot of different people and we shared our views of law and also the development of law. I think it's amazing too. By the way, here just few days left before a new semester, and this year I'll be a year-three student.. time flies, I hope in this semester, I can do my best and also prepare well for studying aboard. let's work hard and I also looking forwards to seeing my classmates and all of you. Also, here is a video, I think this is very touch and meaningful. hope you'll enjoy it and get some lessons from it. | | |
| Today, before our HC class, Faye, Carmen, Alvin and I, we four law students had a coaching session with Pro.Udani and it’s the second time. This time, Udani focused on asking us what we have been changing after this semester... actually, what I think I’ve changed a lot is I have changed my way to deal with things and been more active than before, because in this semester, I had done more different activities and projects. The sky walk, gave me a different view of Macau and of myself, also it helped us develop our friendship and let us learn how to encourage others. The VIP, I think is impression, because it’s time for me to learn how to speak and ask diplomatically and politely. The workshop, I think it also is a great experience for us and for me, it let me become more active, because as a team leader in this workshop, I knew I need to be active and try to motivate and influence others. To conclude, I’m thankful to Udani and my dear classmates, thanks to give me those fruitful and meaningful experiences. Also, Udani asked us what our purpose of our lives is, I think it can’t be sure, because in those several years before I entered the University of Macau, I’ve planed to go to Portugal, however, I stayed in Macau at last. But the draft of my life, I would like to gain more knowledge, contribute to the society and repay to my parents, moreover, I would like to travel all around the world to know more about different cultures and different people! However, the thing that I need to do now is to finish my final exam which started in next week well.
Afterwards, we had our 12th HC class. In the beginning, Pro.Udani gave some time for us four to say out some reflection. I do want to thank everyone who gave me those great experiences.

Later on, we had our own “HC clap” invented by Prof. Udani. I think it’s great to have our own clap and I will remember it in mind, because it belongs to us! Then, we reviewed the powerpoint “Interpersonal skills development Workshop” and Pro. Udani reminded us the “awareness, acceptance, action and reflection”. Reflecting is always important, and if we reflected more to ourselves, we can improve more. Udani also stated that only human being can be reflecting, it’s because we have intellect and free will, with these two faculties, we are different to animals and other things. With intellect, we can have our own mind and with free will, we can judge good or bad. Also, Udani showed us a topic of the power point, “Growing to your potential” it refers to our purpose of our lives. When we have our purpose, we can be better and have the way to be reach to be successful.
After learning some theories, we played a game which is called “Pik Pak Boom”. This game is likely each person says Pik/Pak/Boom and the last one need to call a number which is the group number among us. I’m luckily that my group mates and I can win this game, but the result is not totally important, the most important thing is what we had learnt. During this game, I’ve a little bit nervous and sometimes I would out of attention, but I soon let myself become calmly and pay attention. It’s a great experience for me to know more about how to overcome my nervousness and always pay attention, although maybe it’s just a little thing. Lastly, because I will have the final exam next week, so I think I just can update my blog after finishing my final exam. So, let’s work hard and hope that see you soon!
| Today, we finally finished our first leadership workshop “IF” fruitfully. Do you know what means “I.F.”? It stands for “Inspiration” and “Facilitation”. For this, the objectives of this workshop are: inspire students the concept and skills of leadership; learn the skills of facilitating team through team activities and identify personal strengths and action plan of students.
Firstly, I would like to thank all of you to give me this great experience, especially Ida, James and other coordinator. I think this memorable one not only let others know more about HC, also let me know more about us, I know through our power, we can do different job and also I firmly believe that group work has a magic power, such as 1+1>2, because we can do the things which we didn’t do before and also we can do it well. And in this “IF” leadership workshop, I acted as a team leader, during the process, I know I can do and devote myself more. But what we did today is a meaningful experience and with experiences, we can always improve ourselves. It lets us from good becomes better, and from better becomes the best one. With experiences, learning and never give up, we can be the best. Anyway, in this team leader role, I knew what I should do, I needed to be more active, for this reason, I try my best to talk with my group mates, inspiring them and also inspiring myself to speak out. Although I can be better, what I did today, I don’t have regret. Also, thanks for my group mates cooperating and understanding. I also learn something from them. Nice to meet you all, you gave me a nice experience and nice afternoon!
Return to our workshop, we had several activities, with the purpose of discovering and learning what inspiration and facilitation are. Firstly, we were divided in different groups and each group included two HC students. The first activity was to think about what should be the characteristics of leaders. Actually, there are two leadership styles: participative leadership and autocratic leadership. The first one means that the leaders need to share decision making with group members and the second one means that the leaders retain most of the authority. Afterwards, we had our exciting and funny part – “Speed Stacks Sport”. We are glad to invite John with comes from MUST taught and showed us what is the Speed Stacks Sport. In this activity and as John said, the most important is NEVER GIVE UP. Actually, we shouldn’t give up whatever we do. Still remember? If you think you can, you can. Never say die until the last step, because we don’t know can we fulfill the task unless we tried.

Later on, we had the third part which is “Marshmallow Challenge” again! As before, we were given some noodles and tried to build up the tallest and strongest tower with the marshmallow on the top. Also, we had 18 minutes. This time, I didn’t act as the player, but I can help by words, with experiences I told my group mates how to build the strongest one, but what we can’t forget is that they also contributed a lot to build up this tower. Although experience is important, their cooperation is important as well. Thank for their hard working, we can be the tallest and strongest tower. I’m proud of them! And as the onlooker, I learn and know more about team work from them. Moreover, this successful time also told me that planning to do things is important. With planning, we can manage and organize the thing better and I keep it in my mind.

Then we had our tea break, after we had our forth activity “The Fastest Conveyor”. We needed to transport one ball, one Coca-Cola and two cans with two ropes. From this activity, we all learnt to encourage others and also knew that we always need to think out a new solution and useful method, that’s why we need to learn!
Lastly, we had an action plan sharing. It also reminded me to think more about my action plan, but the upcoming things are I need to work hard on my final exam and also practice more my Portuguese skill. With believe, I believe I can do these things well! After this leadership workshop, I gained experience, friendship and also learning a lot. Furthermore, I do hope that the others can know more about HC, learn more about leadership and can inspire them to join us! HC is a big family and we are all waiting for you to join us!

| This Wednesday, we had our eleventh HC class. Today our topic is about conflict management – how to be dealt with conflict. And in the beginning, we first focused on what is “isolation”. Isolating usually means that someone separates himself / herself from the others or they don’t want to talk or make friends with others... to be reminded, a leader can’t be a isolator, it’s because a leader should be able to build up a good relationship and make his/her followers follow him/her. Afterwards, Pro.Udani asked us to write some “thank you notes” to others. Thankful is always important, it can build up a better relationship and it helps to admit and encourage others to do better, because they know that someone is supporting them and accepting what they did. Also, through thanking someone, it does help to break isolation and can let others become more cooperative. And I do need to thank who gave me the notes, hope we can work together and overcome all the difficulties, also thank you for meeting all of you. Then, we saw a short funny video about two babies, although it’s only 44seconds, make us happy. It does remind us that a little bit things can let others happy.
Later on, we had a challenge game, it’s called “Marshmallow Challenge”. We were divided in groups and were given some noodles and used it to build the strongest and tallest tower within 18 minutes. Then we needed to put a marshmallow on the top of the tower lastly. It’s exciting and happy time, we worked together and tried our best to build the tallest one. Although the tower of my group wasn’t very strong and fell down, this process let us know more about team spirit, also it reminded us that we should have a good plan before doing something, still remember? Work hard is important, but works smart! And it also told us that how foundation is important and it can always help to be stronger!

And last week was Albert Zhang’s birthday! In this class, we had a small celebration to him, it reminded us that HC is a warm family! Moreover, I do want to thank Echo that she made a nice cake to us. Lastly, Happy Birthday to Albert again!
Later, we had our topic of this class - dealing with difficult behavior. Pro.Udani reminded us that we should have a dream and told us we should believe in our dream and believe in people around you and help you achieve the dream. Moreover, we should dare, dare to move forwards, try it and achieve the dream. Lastly, we should act, without act, we will never reach our dream, so work on it!.(DREAM→DARE→ACT!) And today, we have our workshop rehearsal, I think it’s challenge but funny, let work hard on it and with hole heart in mind, hope that we do it well. And also I’m looking forwards to it. And to remind, our HC workshops will be held on Wednesday (2-6pm) and Saturday as well and it’s free to come and join us. So if you want to join us, it absolutely welcomes. See you on those days!!!

| Time flies and things seem a little bit out of control, because there are many notes and some books that I still didn’t watch and I’ll have the final exam soon. But I still keep my motto in mind and keep going on, I think I can achieve the goal that I set. Just because I believe, I believe I can! And this afternoon, we had our HC forum series in JLG floor and this time we were discussing about the coal mine accidents which have happened in China these years, especially the one happened in March, in ShanXi. I think it’s a great experience to let us think more about the society and the world.
First of all, we were divided into two groups and thought about if we were the coal mine owner or the safety department of China. During brainstorm ideas and opinions, we have more concepts about these issues and have deeper impression. I still remember, when we have power that means we can notice more about others, but unfortunately, we are easier to ignore others for wanting to get more profits.

Afterwards, we had a debate part. We were also divided into two groups and discussed whether there should have a death penalty for the coal mine owners who let those unhappy things happened or not. I think although they had done some wrongs, killing them, can’t change the fact and it’s not quite useful to be compensation to those who lost their relatives and even their lives. The most important thing is prevention and be moral, don’t take the human lives for grated. Also, the Central Government could do it better and carry out the law strictly. Life is just once, we can’t have another life, what we can do is to treasure our once lives!
Later on, we had our 10th HC class with Pro. Udani in JM19. First of all, Udani showed us a list which we wrote and wanted to achieve before. To be kindly reminded, Udani reminded us that we have expected something and we also wanted to improve. Udani also told us that to realize these goals, we should have “cognitive-mind”. Also, we should pick up an idea and look at it in different way, this also is a kind of learning. Learning is around us, what we need to do is notice! Besides, we should be “affective”, we should have good emotions and keep hold heart in mind whatever we do. If you have good emotion, you can do with people better. Moreover, we should be “Behavioral”, such as if we wants to improve our communication skills, we should push ourselves to communicate firstly, don’t expect others will come to help you. Always be active and grasp every change, we should always remind ourselves that changes are not easy to come, it’s fast and disappear easily. Then we were given a paper to write some encouragement to our classmates. As saying before, encouragement is important, it’s easy to give, but when others receive it can be quite important to them. Encouragement can push someone to success and also can build up a good relationship. Furthermore, it’s one of the leadership skills too.
Later on, Udani showed us a power point, and I have deep impression on the page with called “You are your lens”, I think it’s meaningful and awesome, it also tells us that problem isn’t out there, on the other hand it’s with us! We shouldn’t blame on others, we should first improve ourselves.
Also, we saw some interesting things about Western and Asian culture and it is a comparison. I think it’s funny, and it show what’s different between two culture and I still remember our previous guest Wong King Keung said, there are no best culture, every culture have its good side, what we should do is to understand each culture. It just like person, no one among us is the best, each has his/her strength, so we can’t look down on someone, on the other hand, we should admit the others’ good things and learn from others!
p.s. Since next Monday (26/04/10) will be our HC promotion days, on Recreation Area C,D (乒乓球室) and it will be hold on 2 weeks, so if you are interested about HC or want to get more information, please come and chat with us! See YOU!
